For the Love of the Game.

Now that the awkward introductions have been made, here comes the exciting bit. The criticism that we all look forward to, but hardly ever agree with... Other people's opinions. And in this case. My opinion.

SOCCER has become a huge craze. Everyone is out supporting and defending their teams, and there's just a general hype around it. Especially recently, as seen on social platforms such as Twitter. And  I get why though. Its a beautiful game, endless fun to watch and even better to play. Even if, like me, you were blessed with two left feet and the miraculous ability to trip over wide empty spaces.

The guys are definitely in their element, most of them equipped with natural instinct towards the game, and the girls, trying really hard to show that they understand the purpose of guys kicking the ball back and forth. (Ogling over the hot players in the process.)

So i totally get how Soccer = Love, and I respect the immense passion towards the amazing game. BUT ( & here it comes!) as with all hypes, there's always those people who go overboard. So stating that soccer is a matter of life and death... Now that is where I draw the line. If you truly understand what life and death  means, you wouldn't dare to utter such falsities. And, as noticed, more and more teenagers are falling under this ignorant ideology. It has become somewhat of a trend, devoting endless time towards the sport, not for the sport only, but rather to impress the rest.

I don't understand how devoting your LIFE to something as temporary as 90 minutes works (and at the end of the day, is nothing more than a GAME). The fact that it has become a norm is saddening.. Especially if it is not done as a means of making a living. (simply is a recreational activity)

It could  be that I'm too serious about life, and tend to become like those grumpy grandfather types. But I think I'm pretty equipped at noticing a wrong when I see it. So if you happen to be the "Soccer is a matter of life and death" type of person, ask someone who has lost a loved one to death, to explain to you its immense, life-long, repercussions. And also, don't just do things because others are doing it too.
Stand out. It suits you better.
